Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?
Regardless of your age, sedation dentistry can help with any of the following issues:
- Dental anxiety
- Fear of needles
- Sensitive gag reflex
- Low pain tolerance
- Special needs
- Complex procedures
What Is Nitrous Oxide?
We use nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” to help you feel relaxed and euphoric during your dental treatment. It is the least intensive form of sedation; it wears off quickly, allowing you to drive yourself home or return to work or school.
For this procedure, we will help you get comfortable in your treatment room and place a special mask over your nose. The mask administers the odorless gas. During your procedure, we will monitor you and adjust the amount of nitrous oxide accordingly.
What Is Non-IV Conscious Sedation?
For more complex or longer procedures, or if you suffer from severe dental anxiety, we offer oral conscious sedation. You’ll come in before your appointment, and we’ll give you a pill to help you feel relaxed and at ease.
You’ll be awake and responsive during your treatment, but you may not remember your appointment. Additionally, if you choose oral conscious sedation, you will need someone to drive you home after your appointment.
Nitrous Oxide or Oral Conscious Sedation: Which One Is Right for You?
There are numerous factors to consider when deciding between nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. Our dental team can help you make an informed choice.
Here are some of the key factors to keep in mind:
- Anxiety level
- Procedure length
- Procedure complexity
- Recovery time
- Medical history
