  • “I have been a patient of Dr. Robertson for over 20 years. I'm a sensitive patient when it comes to going to a dentist and Dr. Robertson always remains mindful of that and makes each experience as relaxing as possible. He has the best possible temperament one could ask for in a dentist. He consistently maintains the most professional and extremely friendly staff which combined with his skills makes his practice by far the best choice.”

    - Bill W, Newport Coast
  • “I just finished a session with Dr. Robertson which involved removing a bridge and filling the tooth that held the bridge, then replacing the bridge. Dr. Robertson was very considerate and caring doing the work. He was most careful while doing the procedure and there was no pain involved. He is especially good in situations such as this one was.”

    - Doris R Y.
  • “We're long-time clients of Dr. Robertson & Company, and we love our visits to his office. Dr. Robertson, and all the dental hygienists and staff, provide the very BEST care possible. Whether it's a simple cleaning and check-up, the need for fillings, cosmetic dentistry or other procedures, they do it all, and always with a smile! Dr. R even adjusted my retainer, the last time I was in. I know you'll enjoy the experience they give their patients. Keep up the great work, and you know we'll be back!”

    - Christine C.
  • “I want to thank you for the outstanding customer service that you and your staff have provided to me and my sister Josephine. I also want to thank Dr. Robert Bryan Mcleod and his assistant for the outstanding and great surgery they did on the extraction of my tooth. All of you are a blessing to me and my sister and are very thankful that we have you now and in the future to come. All of you are highly skilled, professional and very caring. I give all of you the highest rating in every category.”

    - Frances M.
  • “When I arrive for my appointments the staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is very welcoming! When I arrive for my appointment, I am acknowledged immediately and seen just as immediately. No one LOVES going to the dentist but it's a necessary evil and it's nice when you have a staff as great as they are. I always feel like I'm in great hands. Thank you Dr. Robertson and staff for all you do.”

Emergency Dental Treatments at a Glance

Your treatment protocol depends on the nature of your dental emergency. However, you can always count on gentle and compassionate care. Below, we outline a few common emergency dental treatments in Irvine.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy removes the painful infection from your tooth, reducing swelling and discomfort. It is performed with anesthesia, saves your tooth, and is never painful.

Restorative Dentistry

If you have deep decay or an injured tooth, we will take measures to restore it using a tooth-colored filling, a porcelain crown, or other durable cosmetic restorations.

Tooth Replacement

If restorative dentistry cannot save a broken or damaged tooth, your dentist will discuss various tooth replacement options, such as a lasting and functional dental implant.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you experience gum or tooth pain, you should call us right away. We will ask you a series of questions to determine how to best handle your dental emergency. We will ask questions about when the pain started, what you were doing if it is worse when exposed to hot or cold, if you lost a dental restoration, as well as a series of questions to help us prepare for your appointment.

We never want our patients to experience pain. That is why we recommend routine exams and professional dental cleanings. When we have the opportunity to see you on a regular basis, it allows us to stop most dental conditions before they cause discomfort.

Scheduling Your Appointment in Irvine

Chances are if you are in pain during business hours, we will try to see you on the same day. If we talk to you after hours, we will get you in as soon as we can and suggest ways to help you manage your pain until we can arrange for an emergency exam.

Tooth pain is an indication that something is wrong. Do not postpone your call because tooth pain rarely resolves on its own. We will diagnose and treat the cause of your pain, restoring your dental health. Call our Irvine dental office and be seen by Dr. Jeffrey C. Robertson, DDS for your tooth pain.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is any oral health issue that causes pain or puts your teeth and gums at risk.

Common dental emergencies in Irvine include:

  • Toothaches
  • Gum or jaw swelling
  • Oral injuries

If you have a concern that is not listed, please call us for guidance. We schedule time to treat dental emergencies even if you are not a patient of record. Our team doesn’t want anyone in the Irvine community to suffer a toothache or other oral health complications without appropriate intervention.

It’s important to note that if you have an injury outside the mouth, such as an impact injury, you should go to your local emergency room. After a physician has checked you and deemed you safe, you can contact our dental office.

As you await your emergency visit, you can take steps to relieve discomfort:

  • If medically able, use an over-the-counter pain reliever and apply an ice pack periodically for swelling.
  • For a toothache or potential infection, rinse with warm salt water.
  • For light bleeding, try biting gently on sterile gauze.
  • For a knocked out tooth, please place it in a container of milk or saliva, taking care not to overhandle the roots, and bring it to your appointment. Keeping the tooth in milk or saliva helps maintain it for potential reinsertion by your dentist.

Lower Your Dental Emergency Risks

The most common dental emergency is a tooth root infection requiring root canal therapy. We provide gentle root canal therapy and tooth-colored restorations, such as all-porcelain crowns. To mitigate infection risks, brush and floss regularly and see your Irvine dentist every six months for checkups and teeth cleanings. Root infections often result from poor oral hygiene, inadequate dental care, or injuries that allow bacteria to penetrate the root.

To prevent or lower oral injury risks, wear a mouthguard during sports and a nightguard if diagnosed with bruxism (teeth grinding).

Finally, talk to your dentist if you notice changes, such as tooth sensitivity, bleeding gums, or sores that don’t heal.
