  • “I have been a patient of Dr. Robertson for over 20 years. I'm a sensitive patient when it comes to going to a dentist and Dr. Robertson always remains mindful of that and makes each experience as relaxing as possible. He has the best possible temperament one could ask for in a dentist. He consistently maintains the most professional and extremely friendly staff which combined with his skills makes his practice by far the best choice.”

  • “I just finished a session with Dr. Robertson which involved removing a bridge and filling the tooth that held the bridge, then replacing the bridge. Dr. Robertson was very considerate and caring doing the work. He was most careful while doing the procedure and there was no pain involved. He is especially good in situations such as this one was.”

    - Doris R Y.

Whether it's a simple cleaning and check-up, the need for fillings, cosmetic dentistry or other procedures, they do it all, and always with a smile! Dr. R even adjusted my retainer, the last time I was in. I know you'll enjoy the experience they give their patients. Keep up the great work, and you know we'll be back!”

    - Christine C.
  • “I want to thank you for the outstanding customer service that you and your staff have provided to me and my sister Josephine. I also want to thank Dr. Robert Bryan Mcleod and his assistant for the outstanding and great surgery they did on the extraction of my tooth. All of you are a blessing to me and my sister and are very thankful that we have you now and in the future to come. All of you are highly skilled, professional and very caring. I give all of you the highest rating in every category.”

    - Frances M.
  • “When I arrive for my appointments the staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is very welcoming! When I arrive for my appointment, I am acknowledged immediately and seen just as immediately. No one LOVES going to the dentist but it's a necessary evil and it's nice when you have a staff as great as they are. I always feel like I'm in great hands. Thank you Dr. Robertson and staff for all you do.”

Frequently Asked Questions

woman blocking ears with pillow while husband snoresPeople snore when the tissues in the back of their throats obstruct their airway. The obstruction creates a vibration as air moves in and out of the individual’s airway.

Snoring can put a real strain on even the best of relationships. It is even a common reason for divorce. When snoring causes one partner to move to another room entirely, it puts a strain on intimacy and creates negative feelings.

Snoring treatment is not a one-size-fits-all practice. In order to find out how to best treat your snoring symptoms, we need to do an evaluation and find out some things about your medical history.

Factors of Snoring

Some factors increase the likelihood of snoring. First, males snore more than females. Second, obese, and overweight people suffer from snoring especially if they have an increased neck circumference that adds additional pressure to their airway. Third, your anatomy may contribute to snoring because of the tissues located at the back of your throat. Fourth, having a deformed nasal septum contributes to snoring. Fifth, the use of alcohol increases snoring. Sixth, the use of sleeping pills or prescription sedatives may relax the throat more than usual, causing snoring.

Some of our patients come to us because their spouse or partner has complained of loud, disruptive snoring. Snoring is not just a nuisance; it can be a sign of a serious health condition called sleep apnea. Getting checked for sleep apnea through a sleep study is essential to rule out any potentially dangerous conditions.

Snoring can disrupt your sleep and the sleep of those who share your house with you. Daytime fatigue can make you less alert and able to function properly throughout your day. It can be dangerous to operate a vehicle or use machinery without a proper night’s sleep.

Need help treating Sleep Apnea in Irvine?

When we treat patients in our office for snoring, we look at various factors before deciding on treatment. In our dental office, Dr. Jeffrey Robertson provides a number of different appliances to help relieve your snoring. Each of the appliances we offer can be customized for your bite, jaw, teeth, and mouth in order to provide maximum comfort and snoring relief.

Most of them work by repositioning your jaw, opening your airway, or repositioning your tongue to reduce the vibration that causes snoring. Most of our patients report reduction or elimination of snoring resulting in a better night’s sleep for all involved.

What Causes Snoring?

A number of factors can contribute to a chronic snoring problem:

  • Anatomy of the Mouth: A palate that is too thick or too low can narrow your airway, leading to vibration while you breathe. This condition can also be a sign of sleep apnea.
  • Alcohol Consumption: Drinking alcohol before you go to sleep may cause the muscles in your throat to relax, which increases vibration.
  • Nasal Issues: Conditions like a deviated septum or chronic congestion (often stemming from allergies) can make it difficult to breathe through your nose, forcing you to breathe through your mouth instead.

At your appointment with Dr. Robertson, he will examine you thoroughly to determine the cause of your snoring so that he knows how to best treat it. If sleep apnea is suspected, we will provide you with a referral to an accredited sleep center for a sleep study so that we can better understand your condition and treat it appropriately.

Treatment for Snoring in Irvine

Snoring can be effectively and comfortably treated through the use of oral appliances that are worn while you sleep. These devices work by repositioning your tongue and your lower jaw, increasing the size of your airway, and therefore reducing vibration.

We use a number of different appliances at our office because every person’s situation is unique, and an appliance that may be right for one person may not be as effective as another.

Each of the oral appliances we use can be adjusted and calibrated so that it fits comfortably and meets your needs. Additionally, the appliances are durable and long-lasting when treated with proper care. When you are fitted for your device, we will also show you how to make any necessary adjustments and provide you with advice on cleaning and caring for your appliance to help extend its life and keep its comfortable wear.
