Snoring Relief
Some of our patients come to us because their spouse or partner has complained of loud, disruptive snoring. Snoring is not just a nuisance; it can be a sign of a serious health condition called sleep apnea. Getting checked for sleep apnea through a sleep study is essential to rule out any potentially dangerous conditions.
Snoring can disrupt your sleep and the sleep of those who share your house with you. Daytime fatigue can make you less alert and able to function properly throughout your day. It can be dangerous to operate a vehicle or use machinery without a proper night’s sleep.
Need help treating Sleep Apnea in Irvine?
When we treat patients in our office for snoring, we look at various factors before deciding on treatment. In our dental office, Dr. Jeffrey Robertson provides a number of different appliances to help relieve your snoring. Each of the appliances we offer can be customized for your bite, jaw, teeth, and mouth in order to provide maximum comfort and snoring relief.
Most of them work by repositioning your jaw, opening your airway, or repositioning your tongue to reduce the vibration that causes snoring. Most of our patients report reduction or elimination of snoring resulting in a better night’s sleep for all involved.
People snore when the tissues in the back of their throats obstruct their airway. The obstruction creates a vibration as air moves in and out of the individual’s airway.
Snoring can put a real strain on even the best of relationships. It is even a common reason for divorce. When snoring causes one partner to move to another room entirely, it puts a strain on intimacy and creates negative feelings.
Snoring treatment is not a one-size-fits-all practice. In order to find out how to best treat your snoring symptoms, we need to do an evaluation and find out some things about your medical history.
Factors of Snoring
Some factors increase the likelihood of snoring. First, males snore more than females. Second, obese, and overweight people suffer from snoring especially if they have an increased neck circumference that adds additional pressure to their airway. Third, your anatomy may contribute to snoring because of the tissues located at the back of your throat. Fourth, having a deformed nasal septum contributes to snoring. Fifth, the use of alcohol increases snoring. Sixth, the use of sleeping pills or prescription sedatives may relax the throat more than usual, causing snoring.
