It’s actually a simple process. The main goal is not that different from the idea behind traditional bracket-and-wire braces: gentle and constant pressure is used to move and direct your teeth. Your aligners are custom made for you from impressions and images of your teeth. Dr. Robertson will plan out your entire treatment, and the aligners will be made accordingly.
We’ll provide you with your full series of aligners, and then you’ll wear them in order, changing them out as directed by Dr. Robertson. Each aligner fits snugly over your teeth and is slightly different than the one before it. When you change aligners, the new aligner will feel slightly “off” at first. This is because the plastic is putting pressure on your teeth so that they will move toward the correct alignment. This isn’t done all at once, but gradually in small movements.
During each stage of treatment, only certain teeth will need to move. For instance, if we are correcting overlapping front teeth, we will first need to create space for those teeth by gently shifting your other teeth. Once space is created, the design of the aligners will allow for focus on the front teeth so that they can comfortably move into the correct position. Because the movements are small and precisely planned, your treatment is comfortable.
Is Invisalign Right for Me?
