Children's Braces
Sometimes the best time to treat certain conditions is before they have time to fully develop. Preventative orthodontics is no exception. When we treat children in our office, we monitor them closely in order to make sure that they are on a successful path to oral health and wellness. If we see a potential problem that needs addressing before it develops and causes more extensive damage, we will make you aware of the issue.
Preventative orthodontics may seem like a luxury. In reality, early intervention can reduce treatment time, severity, and cost down the line. We do our best to make treatment as easy and non-invasive as possible. So if we see a way to treat a problem before it progresses, we think you should know about it. As always, the final decision about treatment is your decision to make.
Conditions Fixed Through Braces
Overcrowding, crossbite, crooked teeth, and malocclusion are all conditions that we can address through early childhood orthodontics. Using tools such as expanders, we may even avoid the need for extractions later in treatment.
Orthodontics today is just as focused on function as aesthetics. We take into account comfort and longevity. You only get one smile, so let us make the most of it. Call our office today!
Early childhood intervention with braces is becoming increasingly common because this method is beneficial in order to address conditions before they become a serious issue. Problems such as cross bite and overcrowding in younger children require early treatment, eliminating the need for more extensive treatment and even extractions later.
When you bring your child to our Irvine, California dental office, Dr. Jeffrey Robertson will monitor your child closely looking for any indication that orthodontic intervention may benefit them. If he sees something you should know about, he will let you know right away so that you can make the best decisions possible regarding your child’s health. We can describe the conditions and treatment possibilities.
The Pros of Early Treatment
In some cases, early treatment reduces the overall cost and time necessary for treatment later in your child’s teen years. We could avoid the need for surgeries and extractions down the line by treating your child during their growing years.
Dr. Robertson is an expert at treating children and orthodontics is no exception. We make it is easy and convenient to get comprehensive, quality dental care for your entire family. To find out if your child needs orthodontics, contact us to schedule an evaluation. We look forward to supporting the overall health and beauty of your entire family.
At our Irvine, California dental office, we treat all types of children’s orthodontic cases. From overcrowding to crooked teeth, orthodontics is not just about aesthetics anymore. In fact, function and comfort are our number one goals. Aesthetics are important, too, but we believe having the most beautiful smile on the planet is worthless unless you can comfortably chew.
Children begin to show signs of overcrowding and malocclusion as young as seven years old. Diagnosing your child early may help to minimize the treatment necessary to improve your child’s dental health.
Conditions we treat include:
- Crossbite
- Underbite
- Overbite
- Overcrowding
- Malocclusion
- Crooked teeth
- Overlapping teeth
- Oddly placed teeth
No matter the condition, Dr. Jeffrey Robertson can give you the best possible chance for a healthy outcome. If you suspect your child may require orthodontic treatment, give our office a call and we can set up an evaluation so that you know potential problems and possible treatment.
Scheduling Your Child's Appointment
Of course, aesthetics is important, too. If your child has crooked teeth and you would like the opportunity to hear about options to improve their smile, we look forward to hearing from you, as well. Looking great and feeling great means an increased quality of life and overall better confidence.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children be evaluated for orthodontics by age seven. At this age, enters what we call the mixed dentition stage; they still have baby teeth, but their first permanent molar has erupted.
The process for your child potentially needing braces
Just because we evaluate your child for orthodontics, however, doesn’t necessarily mean they need braces. In fact, seeing your son or daughter at this age and providing early treatment may eliminate the need for braces in the future.
The goal of early orthodontic treatment—also called Phase One Treatment or interceptive orthodontics—is to ensure that there’s enough space in your child’s jaw for their permanent teeth to erupt correctly. The types of problems Dr. Robertson looks for during his evaluation are spacing problems and malocclusion (overbite, underbite, crossbite, etc.).
Depending on his findings, Dr. Robertson may recommend Phase One Treatment that usually involves wearing an orthodontic appliance. For example, if your son or daughter lost a baby tooth before it was ready to come out on its own, Dr. Robertson may recommend a space maintainer. This appliance prevents neighboring teeth from moving by holding space, so the permanent tooth comes in straight.
