If the removal of one or several teeth is recommended by Dr. Robertson, you have the option of dental implants in order to keep your smile complete. Implants are a safe option that look natural and feel secure. Dental implants work by placing an anchor (titanium implant) into a hole made in the jawbone. This will create an "artificial root" that can secure an abutment. This abutment will then be used to secure the actual prosthetic crown or bridge. This procedure will result in an implant that will not be easily distinguishable from a real tooth.
Implants have advantages over removable dentures as well as fixed bridges. Removable dentures can move around when you eat or speak since they are not permanently fixed in place. Also, as your teeth age, the bone that supports the dentures can change or shrink making it difficult for this bone to comfortably support your dentures. Fixed bridges are also at a disadvantage since they damage the teeth around them. If your teeth are healthy it is preferable to keep them in their natural state.
